Tier 4 lockdown coronavirus essex

As of today, a new area of Essex has replaced Basildon as the Covid capital of England. Yesterday (Saturday, December 19), Basildon, Essex, was announced as the worst-affected area in the week leading to December 14. But today the latest figures showed that Thurrock now has a higher infection rate.

The latest infection figures show that once again cases across the county have continued to rise. In the seven days to December 15, 1,676 new cases were recorded in Thurrock, and it has seen the biggest week-on-week jump in the whole of the country.

It is perhaps no surprise then, that Basildon has fallen under the new 'Tier 4' level of restrictions announced in yesterday's Downing Street press conference.

Immediately following this announcement, there was some uncertainty as to whether estate and letting agents would be considered 'non-essential' (as in the first lockdown at the start of the year), or could continue to work as in the month-long recent national lockdown.

An announcement from Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick, on Twitter, says: “Housing market update: the sales and rental markets remain open in all tiers. All associated activities can continue as before.” But he continues: “Please follow the Covid-secure guidance. And use your judgment as to whether it’s necessary right now.”

The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government has also given specific guidance for the English tier 4 locations.

It says: “You can still move home. People outside your household or support bubble should not help with moving house unless absolutely necessary.

“Estate and letting agents and removals firms can continue to work. If you are looking to move, you can go to property viewings.Follow the national guidance on moving home safely, which includes advice on social distancing and wearing a face covering.”

At Baillie White Lettings, we are continuing to offer all essential services, to include: property viewings (for vacant properties only), photography and listing of new rentals, safety testing and certification for rental properties (but please bear with us as these may now be delayed whilst we take extra Covid-secure measures), check-ins and check-outs of tenants who are moving home, and first time inspections on recent lets.

Of course, we are always available by phone, email and video call, 7 days a week.

If you are concerned that you or your tenants may be affected by the new Tier 4 restrictions, give us a call on 01268 955001 and we'll be happy to talk things over with you.

In the meantime, here's wishing the merriest of Christmases to you and your family.
